Discover the multicultural side of modern day Rome, Italy. Along with a small group of globally-minded travelers, we’ll explore the Eternal City’s storied past and life today for residents of color.

Day 1: September 29
Day 1: Benvenuti a Roma
Welcome to Rome, the Eternal City! Get to know your fellow travelers at our welcome dinner as we break bread over a traditional Roman meal.
Day 2: September 30
Day 2: Ancient Rome
Our morning begins with a tour of the Colosseum, one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. We’ll continue to the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, where our guide will highlight the remnants of what was once the center of the thriving Roman empire.
You’ll have the afternoon free to eat lunch and explore the city center. In the evening, everyone will meet up for dinner at an authentic Eritrean restaurant.
Day 3: October 1
Day 3: Vatican city
Our journey inside the world’s smallest country begins at the Vatican Museums, where we’ll see Raphael’s exquisite rooms and the famous Sistine Chapel.
Our guide will then lead us through the majestic St. Peter’s Basilica, one of the holiest sites in the Roman Catholic Church. Marvel at Michelangelo’s Pietà and get up close with Bernini’s massive bronze canopy.
For lunch, we’ll return to Rome and dine at Gustamundo. Our meal will be prepared by a local migrant, who will share stories about their culture, cuisine, and personal journey to Italy.
Day 4: October 2
Day 4: multicultural rome
Wake up early for this optional tour of Rome’s Grand Mosque. Learn about the history and design of the largest mosque in the Western world.
After lunch on your own, the group will meet up for a walking tour of Esquilino. This migrant-led tour will showcase this central Roman neighborhood where many cultures intersect.
Experience Rome’s lively nightlife this evening. We’ll start with happy hour – the Italian way. After enjoying a drink and the massive aperitivo spread, we’ll head out for a night on the town. Transportation to the club will be provided.
Day 5: October 3

Consult your Booked by Iman guidebook to craft your own Roman Holiday. Explore Rome’s famous piazzas and monuments, from the Spanish Steps to the Trevi Fountain, or visit a few lesser known museums in Ostiense.
For those who want to escape the city, there will be an optional picnic in Aqueduct Park. We’ll visit a local market to grab some food before heading to the park.
Day 6: October 4
Day 6: modern day rome
Italy is best experienced through its food. Our day will start with a 4 hour food tour in the charming neighborhood of Testaccio. We’ll be sampling everything from traditional pasta to a modern supplì, so be sure to bring your appetite.
Get your cameras ready in the afternoon for our street art tour. We’ll walk through one of Rome’s up and coming neighborhoods and learn the stories behind these colorful works of art.
Day 7: October 5
Day 7: volunteering
We’ll start our last full day working with a local organization that supports migrants. You’ll have the afternoon free to do any last-minute shopping and sightseeing.
Our time in Rome will end with a group dinner at Altrove. This critically-acclaimed restaurant serves up classic Roman dishes with an international twist. Its mission is equally inspiring: they train young migrants and disadvantaged youth to join the culinary industry.
Day 8: October 6
Day 8: arrivederci
Depart the Eternal City with new travel buddies and lifelong memories.
What’s Not Included
The total cost of this trip is $1,800. If paid in full, the discounted rate is $1,650.
You may also opt to pay in installments. A $300 deposit is required to secure your spot on the trip, followed by 6 payments of $250 due on the 15th of each month. Your trip must be paid in full by July 15, 2021.
